Katja Felle

No. 10

2015, acrylic on canvas, 170 cm x 220 cm

Katja Felle’s theme is the digital image, its ephemeral appearance and circulation, dependent on electronic devices and interfaces, and thus full of noise when compared to the traditional painterly image, noise that the contemporary perception of the visual has already internalized. “When fixated in the format of a painting, an interference that is only momentary and transient on a screen becomes prolonged; captured in a frozen image it intensifies our irritation – it’s an unfixable error now. My understanding of an interference is twofold: as that which disrupts order and creates chaos, increasing entropy, and as the constructive element that enables the creation of new order. An interference is a moment between two extremes – order and disorder, the emptiness that results from the collapse of the system.” (K. Felle)
